APPEAL TO NIGERIANS AND INEC ON THE EVE OF ELECTIONS IN NIGERIA
NEW YORK, NY – As the elections of the president, governors and State and National Assemblies are underway in Nigeria, the Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN, Inc.) hereby appeals to Nigerians to go out and let their voices be heard loud and clear. While exercising this important alienable rights, we are appealing to you to vote WISELY. We are encouraging you to vote for candidates that will serve the best interests of your fellow Nigerians, uplift the nations and add value to the lives of Nigerians.
As you go to the polls, you must use your Godly given common sense to separate facts from fictions as well as real events from propaganda. We urge you to compare the records of the candidates and their political affiliations. We are calling on you to resist any forms of temptations, including but not limited to the token handouts that are offered to you, no matter where they may come from. Your votes will determine the future of our country, Nigeria, your children and your fellow Nigerians. You must exercise this power objectively and wisely. We trust that you will not let Nigeria and her citizens down.
We are also appealing to the election umpire, INEC, to ensure that the elections are free, fair and credible. After 20 years, democracy should be fully entrenched; and tenets of democracy should be fully operational.
About the Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians
The Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN) Inc. (the coordinator of the Nigeria Independence Day Celebration in NYC) was founded in 1989 by a group of concerned Nigerian to address the needs of the Nigerian community. At that time, Nigeria and Nigerians were suffering seriously from negative stereotypes in the American media. Prior to OAN’s formation, no organization was committed to the broader issues facing the Nigerian community in the United States. OAN filled the void by creating an umbrella organization, which embraced Nigerians from all walks of life, regardless of their ethnic and religious backgrounds. OAN immediately dedicated itself to enhance the image of Nigerians in the U.S. and address the negative stereotypes of Nigerians in American media and culture.
May God bless you; may God bless OAN; may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria
