History of the Parade

Nigeria Independence Day Parade was started by Organization for the Advancement of Nigerians (O.A.N. Inc.); and has been an annual event since 1991. It is the only parade by an African nation in the City of New York, which plays host to hundreds of various nations’ parades that range from the Far East to the West Indies. Nigerian Independence Day Celebration

October 4, 5, & 6th 2012. We kick off the celebration with the Thrsday Night Welcome Party, then Friday Culture Night and the grand finale, Saturday, the 52nd NIDC Parade in New York City.
There is no doubt that this years event will be huge. The 3 day Festivity takes full swing, beginning with the Welcome Party. Then the fabulous Culture Night looks to sell out and pack the premises again. Every year parade goers and proud supporters peacefully march down Second Avenue in celebration. There will be a range of vendors providing traditional food favorites and merchandise to indulge in as usual. Expect inspiring live performances and dancing. Rain or shine, We will rejoice in unity. DO NOT MISS OUT!!! Bring your proud spirits and green and white colors along for joyful-loud cheers. See you there!!!
